Computer Love Is Back

So it's been over a year and a half since anything was posted over here at Computer Love. Why? Well, both of us (John and Tim) have been crazy busy with college, work, and life in general. John moved out of his house a little over a year ago and has been making excuses as to why he's never online since, and well, we just never really felt as if the blog was worth a lot of our time.

But well, things have changed, I guess. We are both listening to a lot of new music all of the time, so why not write about it? I mean, it's not like we aren't already uploading it to MediaFire, anyway.

For this first post in over a year in a half – in this return to Computer Love – I'd like to blog a few tracks that are not only pretty but also have some meaning to me, personally.

The summer of 2007 was a crazy one for me. The first month was a great month – I had just started fooling around with Propellerhead Reason (Reason 3, so no Thor or RPG-8 or any of the other cool plugs for Reason 4), and I actually wrote quite a few tracks in a remarkably short period of time. Well, after not even having been out of school for a month, I got a phone call one evening – my grandmother had become seriously ill and was in the hospital, and we had to get down from northern Michigan to central Kentucky as soon as we could – we were packing for a funeral (that thankfully, did not happen).

Anyway, we left on July 1st, and we didn't get back until mid-August; for most intents and purposes, I was stuck 8 hours from home all summer, with nothing to do but skateboard and play my DS. I didn't have a laptop at the time, and my computer was in need of some parts, so I didn't get to work on (or really even listen to) music all summer – the only music that I had that I liked was a CD with about 11 tracks that I had written just prior to leaving.

Anyway, times that I had computer and / or internet access were few and far-between, but some very interesting things happened when I did. It was that summer that, through di.fm, I discovered synthpop / futurepop. Also, I was exposed to early, pre-commercial electro house. The interesting bit is that I was introduced to these genres more or less at the same time.

Somehow or the other, I heard Ladytron – Destroy Everything You Touch. I quickly became enamored with the cold, robotic vocals and the apathetic, distant way that they were sang. Looking back, my musical tastes have changed quite a bit (I used to be able to listen to Rotersand and Icon of Coil all day long – not anymore!), but that song in particular had a serious impact on me at the time.

Then, by some beautiful twist of fate, I discovered Tom Neville's electro house remix of Destroy Everything You Touch. It took everything that was great about the original, extended it by a few minutes, and re-shaped it for the dancefloor with buzzing, stuttering synths and a basic but insistent rhythm. I was immediately in love with the track.

[CL001 Ladytron – Destroy Everything You Touch (Tom Neville Remix)]

Fast-forward a few years. Electro house came and went as the 'next big thing', but it is obviously still here to stay for quite awhile. Also, while nobody was paying attention, the whole indie dance / nu-disco / French electro scene came and went as the 'next big thing', and is obviously here to stay, too; this blog was created with the intent of posting the best new indie tracks (and the best old italo-disco tracks, too). Anyway, I was thinking about this whole thing this morning, and I remembered that not too long ago, I stumbled upon a beautiful remix of Ladytron – Predict The Day by the elusive Grey Ghost:

[CL001 Ladytron – Predict The Day (Grey Ghost Remix)]

Grey Ghost goes all out with retro-sounding synth strings and stabs, a nice bubbly bassline, and tastefully-vocoded vocals. This track right here is Ladytron, how they always should have been – pretty, emotional, and – dare I say it? – radio-friendly. If you still use that MySpace thing, go add Grey Ghost – I'm sure he could use the fans. I know I could.

Well, it's good to be back in the music blogging game. Maybe we'll be a little more successful this time around.

80s Blipsters

Would I be right in saying that these are the only black Italo Disco group? I really can't seem to find any others, please tell me I am wrong because this is radically good! Anyways this group needs a little blurb becuase they have one interesting story.

The front man of break machine was Keith Rodgers who had been part of the Village People. But after the fall of 70s disco no-one wanted stuff like the Village People, so Keith Rodgers went in search for a new sound. In the early 80s he found this sound after teaming up with the musician Fred Zarr. Keith Rodgers took these ideas and with the production team behind Village People (namely Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo) he released the massively popular track "Street Dance" and later on this one called Break Dance Party. Keith Rodgers still makes music under the name "SugaBear".

So sorry now I am rambling! But here is the moment you have all been waiting for... The track!

Recently bought me a copy of rex the dog's new album (yes kids I listen to new music too), and this in my opinion is the best track on the album. Also I have found out how to put these awesome little flash players in. Go me!

Plus a nice little bonus cartoon about the new single "I can see you, can you see me?". Very funny and charming which is just like Rex.

Life Is Really A Jungle

Has it been a week already? Time flies by when you ain't posting, which gives me more of an excuse to post more, but I am kinda de-motivated at the moment and can't really post Everyday. Anyways I have thought of a plan, I will do three posts a week and if I am feeling generous then I will do more, how does that sound? Me thinks pretty darn good.

So onto the post! And first off I wanna say that John has some cheek, posting on my blog and his with the same music! Can you believe that?! Well getting over my intense rage I would like to introduce y'all to 70s disco. This track came out late 70s (79 from discogs) and is a B-side to the LP "Jungle D.J. And Dirty Kate". Really worth checking out the rest of this vinyl and if you see it for a good price then BUY!

Kikrokos - Life Is A Jungle

The next track is from an artist who needs no introduction, he was a living a legend. And this is one of his best works in my opinion.

Enjoy,

L A S E R D A N C E !

I've been a little silent around here lately, and for that I apologize. This has been a combination of factors; the most important of which is that I haven't had any music to post here that Tim doesn't have. He's the resident italo guy, and something doesn't feel right about... you know, posting trance around here - know what I mean? It just doesn't jive with the vibe we've got going on around here. (Yes, I know, the 90s called and want their words back... blah blah blah.)

Earlier this year, though Tim probably doesn't want to admit it, I made a stellar discovery - spacesynth / space disco / whatever you want to call it, just click this link and go to the Wiki, okay? (Also worth noting is that I discovered italo before Tim did, but I couldn't find much of it worth listening to, so I lost interest. However, Tim managed to find a ton of good italo, making him the Italo God.)

So anyhow... Laserdance is one of the best and most influential spacesynth groups, period. Here's a really good track by them - A Night Out in Tomorrowland:

Enjoy the danz0r. ^_^

Tommy Tommy Tommy

Well this one is a shorter one, mainly cos maths has taken up alot of my time tonight but what can I do? I chose it!

Well onto the tune, and this one is back to the ritual of italo. This one has come up on shuffle quite a few times while out and about and I only check today what the track was called, really good IMO, definatly worth looking at your iPod for. 'Nough said, so enjoy.

Tommy - One Night

One Night And One Night Only

For some reason at my new school alot of people still call me tom, instead of tim. So I suppose you could get Tommy out of Tom or Thomas. Anyways onto the next track, a Remix version.

Tommy - One Night (Remix)

Also I need to get new on-the-go heaphones. Does anyone like the look of these?

Yay/Nay?

Music That Makes Me Happy Pt. 3

Well turned out to be some series, huh? Well kinda cos their are a few tracks out that get me happy but only a very small few that get me really happy, and these posts are dedicated to them! Oh sorry about the break everybody, but life has been long and relentless (boo frkn hoo right?). Anyways I started this too late and now it is after midnight so I think this is actually Monday (and the start of a new month) which means 4 days off I think. Wow I am ramblin'

So this track is not the usually genre of track, this one is by LCD Soundsystem. Actually that is something about LCD which confuses me cos I am not sure what genre they are or maybe they are too cool for one. Hmmm I wish I could be that cool, but alas it can never be.

LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends

All My Friends

Is that track also part of the lyrics which make no sense genre? I never bothered googling for the lyrics to be honest.

Ok on to the next track, this one is more electronic electroey kinda track. It is an old one too and quite mainstream like the other, but this one I have liked longer and have played waaaay more. If there was any track which would keep on popping up on my favourites list then it will be this.

Play count : 50

Joakim - I Wish You Were Gone

Hot Shot

This version is the one from the compilation Versatile Hot Shots (hence the cover art) which I bought from iTunes, which is a warning to any reader how likes his/her indie alty music (exclusive to vinyl).

So maybe two Monday posts then.

Sonic Boom

To prove that I listen to music beside Italo I have just descided that we need some more game music. No it's not another Final Fantasy but this time it is to the (only) good game for the sega mega cd or sega cd as some people call it, "Sonic CD". There is only two tracks I liked from it and they are just two version of the same song but still they kick ass (is it too cliched to say that now, actually is it too cliched to say cliche?). Anyways the track is Sonic Boom!

Pastiche - Sonic Boom (Original)

Boom, Sonic Boom

And not forgetting the second version.

Pastiche - Sonic Boom (Alt)

Sorry about them being so short but I can't find a good extended remix or anything like that.

Oh and also before I forget here is another Sonic soundtrack, erm.... track, this one is only like 20 secs though, so enjoy!

Jun Senoue - Advertise : SA2 Ver.B

Also an groovy version.

Jun Senoue - Advertise : SA2 In The Groove

--BONUS--

Just a video clip of the cartoon opening of sonic cd. 'Tis very good.
